What can lead you to a dental emergency?

A dental emergency arises in the circumstances when you are suffering from a –

  • Gum Bleeding: Gum bleeding may be often accompanies by acute pain and swelling. This calls for an emergency situation
  • Swollen Jaw: A swollen jaw may be accompanied by a mild fever, foul taste in the mouth, trouble in breathing or swallowing, etc. No delay should be made in visiting the dentist’s office in such cases.
  • Numbness in your tooth and/or the surrounding gums: Loosing sensation implies that the infection has not only affected the tooth but has also gone down to the roots. It then damages the tooth nerve which is actually responsible for carrying the pain or any other sensation to the brain!
  • Jaw pain: Usually, a jaw pain indicates a TMJ syndrome. TMJ stands for a Temporomandibular joint pain. This may arise due to habits like teeth grinding or clenching or factors like teeth overcrowding and malocclusions, especially in the back teeth. It gives a frequently recurring sharp pain near the joint of your skull and the jawbone, and is at times nearly unbearable.
  • Accidental issues: Unforeseen mishaps may occur anytime. A trauma can lead to a minor crack, a broken tooth, chipped teeth or a lost crown! All accidents would not necessarily require an immediate dental visit. For instance, a meagerly cracked or chipped tooth would need restorations like, say, veneers. But if the accident has rendered a tooth loose, which needs to be extracted immediately, it is surely a dental emergency.

Why Schedule an appointment with us?

The comfort and relief of our patients, tops the list of our priorities. In dealing with any emergency, we would first take necessary measures to relieve you of the pain. Analgesics might be used in this regard. We could also apply some sedation if required, so that you are able to relax well. Consequently, X-rays and other tests are made in order to detect the problem. In the event of a situation where the particular tooth cannot be saved, you are referred to our oral surgeon for an extraction. A root canal alleviates any pain almost instantly because, the pulp of the tooth root which contains the nerve is extracted and the pain sensation no longer exists!
